March Madness 2023

Starting this Thursday is the 2023 NCAA basketball tournament, also known as March Madness. The name is fitting considering it takes place in March, and madness ensues in this 68-team, single-game elimination tournament. The teams are split into 4 regions: South, East, Midwest, and West. The teams are seeded 1-16 with 4 of each seed, 1 from each region.

Fans are able to make their own bracket by filling out who they think will win each game throughout the tournament, and millions of people try to make the “perfect bracket”. However, this feat has still never been achieved on record to date, the odds being 1 in 9.2 quintillion. Some fill out their brackets via analytics, some do a gut decision bracket, while others pick what mascot they like more. There are endless ways to fill out a free bracket and attempt to predict a winner as best as possible.

Ball Arena will host 4 games on Friday, (3) Baylor vs (14) UC Santa Barbra, (6) Creighton vs (11) NC State, (3) Gonzaga vs (14) Grand Canyon, and (6) TCU vs (11) Arizona State. The winners of those games will face off on Sunday.

As always, students will be watching basketball games, awaiting their bracket to be busted. March Madness is always a fun time of the year, with upsets, Cinderella runs, buzzer-beaters, and games from noon to midnight. There’s nothing to dislike about the NCAA March Madness tournament.
