Remembering Mr. Wentz

Mr. Wentz was a staple here at Littleton for eighteen years. He passed away on July 8th after fighting a courageous battle against cancer for several months. Wentz is remembered as a kind, caring, and a fantastic teacher. He was the type of person to ask you how you were doing, and genuinely cared about your answer.

Wentz worked hard both inside and outside of the classroom. He created constructive and exciting lessons for all of his students and coached Girls Golf and sponsored the Student Council for many years.

The GoFundMe that was set up in Wentz’s name raised more than $22,000 of the original $3,000 goal. Community members left comments for months detailing everything Wentz did for them. Staff and students both past and present have amazing memories of Wentz. Mr. Prince, one of Wentz’s good friends described one of his favorite things about him.

“The big laugh that was heard all the way down the hallways that was just kind of a happy, goofy laugh.”

And it is true that people were always able to know when they were in the presence of Wentz. He always made sure that students were well cared for in his classroom. He kept a box of supplies with first aid, hair products, and food for his students.

“He made connections with students like no other, so we felt safe to come to him about any problems. He always had anything you could ever need. Once, I went to him asking if he had a wrench, he pulled out a bright purple tool kit with everything.” said Senior Audrey Thomson.

Wentz was known for his compassion for helping others. He took time out of his day to explain topics to struggling students. I remember going into his classroom during my off hour and getting help or just talking to him about life.

“ He had an incredible way of explaining math to everyone, and even helped me throughout the year on different ways to teach material.” said his colleague Ms. Bents.

Many students had him for multiple years as he taught a variety of classes. He influenced hundreds of students every year. At his funeral many of the attendees were past students that graduated many years ago.

“I want people to remember him for the outstanding impact that he had on everyone he met.” says Junior Christian Tieberg

Wentz will be missed greatly, but the impact he made on our school and the community will live forever.

Every first Wednesday of the month will now be known as WentzDay. Wear tropical or bowling shirts on these Wednesdays in celebration of Mr. Wentz.
