Six LHS seniors sign to play collegiate sports

Students, parents, faculty, and community members gathered on Wednesday morning in the forum to celebrate the commitment of six seniors to participate in collegiate sports.

Seniors Ryan Braun and Nashawn Harrison will both attend Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, to play football this fall. Both Braun and Harrison have made so many memories. Harrison shared his favorite memory.

“I really liked the team dinners we had every day before the game. It’s really really fun with the team. We always get together—all the moms are there, friends are there. It’s a family environment and I love it.”

Scout Hawkins will attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington to swim for their women’s team. She is sad to leave Colorado but excited to start a new chapter in her life.

“I think what I enjoyed the most from my four years of swimming for Littleton is swimming with my amazing teammates every day. I made some of my best friends on this team and I will miss them dearly.”

Participating in school sports is a great way to make friends and get involved in the Littleton High School community.

Seniors Penny Urquhart and Jacy Chandler will both attend Western Colorado University in Gunnison. Both Urquhart and Chandler have played basketball for all four years of high school. When asked what inspired her to play, Chandler shared with us.

“My mom played basketball, so I was always into that. My aunt played basketball in college, too.”

Also continuing a career in basketball is senior Treyton Fletcher. Fletcher will attend Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin this fall.

None of these seniors expected that they’d sign to a college to continue their athletic career. Hard work pays off. The recruitment process can be stressful, though. Urquhart shares her advice to those in the process.

“Just be patient and be calm, because you don’t know who’s gonna come for you. Always be respectful and be caring towards coaches and other players.”

If you currently play a sport, keep at it and work hard. You never know how far it’ll take you.
