Band and Orchestra finish of their year with their POPS Concert

On Thursday May 2nd, LHS bands and orchestra performed their 2023 POPs Concert.  Starting at 7 PM, the student musicians spent the next few hours whisking the audience from world to world with a whimsical general theme.

Conducted by Brian Luzietti, Jazz Combo started off the concert with tunes Sassy by Bodine, Bentyne, Siegel and Afro Blue by Mongo Santamaria.

The Chamber Orchestra followed with Lord of the Dance, Cinderella, and Fiddler’s Stew by Ronan Hardiman/arranged by Custer, Prokofiev/arranged by Laura and Shel Stanfill, and Richard Meyer, respectively.

The last performance before the 10 minute intermission was the Symphonic Winds.  Their first song was How To Train Your Dragon by Powell/arranged by O’Loughlin.  After that they played Ruckus by Randall Standridge and Music from the Incredible by Giacchino/arranged by Bocook.

After the intermission, Jazz Ensemble brought the audience back with Whalen and Falaschi’s Well Run Dry, Eric Richards’ Showtime, and Craig Skeffington’s Trofeo De Bolos.

Next was the Symphony Orchestra playing Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky/arranged by Isaac.  During their next song, Cody Fry’s I Hear A Symphony, seniors stood at the front of the stage and played the vocal parts, something new this year.

Before the seniors final performance of their high school careers, the projector screen was brought down and the senior slideshow was played.  Parents and students saw how the young musicians had grown and the whole audience was constantly erupting with cheers and laughter.

For the final piece, the Combined Ensembles played Carabina Afterparty by Omar Thomas.

Thank you LHS senior musicians for the time you’ve spent entertaining our school.  And to current students, thank you for the incredible performances you are sure to give us.
