South Gym AC

South Gym where air conditioning is needed the most

We all know about the south gym either, from having PE, Picture Day, etc. But have you noticed how hot it is in there?

I know from personal experience how hot it can get in there, especially when there are lots of people. Even with a few people, it can still cause you to overheat and sweat and the dangers are even worse when there are so many people in one place.

A study from Harvard has shown that each increase in temperature by 1⁰ Fahrenheit reduces the amount learned in a year by 1%. That may seem not like much, but without proper air conditioning the temperature adds up quickly and effect all of us.

We only have one PE class each semester unless you have selected another class for next semester. A 0.5% increase can still damage our learning.

You may also say, what about the cost? Well, it can be expensive, but air conditioning increases the happiness and productivity of students and staff.

Mrs. Stephanie Evilsizer is one of our volleyball coaches and says,

¨I would say that sitting at a desk in a hot room is more manageable than running, jumping, and playing in a hot gym. I would love to see AC installed in our South gym to help our students be able to participate more comfortably while they are being physically active, and also to benefit our student athletes that use the gym space after the school day ends.¨

Junior Antonio Fox said,

¨I would choose the South Gym Air Conditioning because there is more physical/rigorous activity and movement around the gym. Those that get tired easily or are very prone to sweating or asthma, need air conditioning the most.¨

Remember to drink water in your classes to try and beat the heat.
