Super Bowl LVII leaves fans divided

The teams competing in the Super Bowl just won their Conference Championship games this past Sunday. Those teams were the Kansas City Chiefs out of the AFC and the Philadelphia Eagles out of the NFC. Super Bowl LVII (57) was played in Glendale, Arizona on February 12, 2023, with the halftime show performer being Rihanna.

These teams were the two best teams in the NFL coming out of the regular season, so the matchup comes to little surprise. The Chiefs took the Super Bowl trophy back to Kansas City for the second time in four years.

Patrick Mahomes won Regular Season MVP as well as Super Bowl MVP, making him the first player to do so since 1999. However, there was still some controversy following a late holding call on 3rd and 8, allowing the Chiefs to wind down the clock and kick a game-winning field goal.

“I was kinda sad that the Eagles lost,” said sophomore Peyton Brooks, who was rooting against Broncos division rival Kansas City Chiefs.

This has left many Broncos fans upset about the rival team winning.

However, these are two of the most hated organizations in the league, due to their dominance in recent years and the actions of their players/fans. Philadelphia sports fans, specifically Eagles fans, are known as some of the craziest fans in the country. Following a victory in the NFC championship, the fans went around the city in excitement, climbing poles even though the poles were oiled to prevent such actions, and climbing on and breaking bus stops leading to one Eagles fan having neck damage.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs have been in and hosted the last 5 AFC championships, all of which under star Quarterback Patrick Mahomes. This becomes the first Super Bowl matchup between two African American Quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs and Jalen Hurts of the Eagles.

For another first in Super Bowl history, the first player-family rivalry took place with Travis Kelce star Tight End of the Chiefs and Jason Kelce star Center of the Eagles facing off.
