The boys wrestling team has a hold on the competition

As winter sports begin to wrap up their season, LHS boys wrestlers are wrapping up their competition. The team is making a comeback after a year of wrestling in a pandemic.

Although COVID is still an ongoing problem, the wrestling team has had fewer restrictions.

“[We didn’t have] to wrestle with masks, which was really nice. And we had tournaments which were nice instead of just having duals,” said senior Kai Saito.

The enthusiasm shows for the team placed fifth at an Arvada Invitational in January with an individual first place from Issak Hosford.

The wrestlers swept the competition at the League Tournament with Saito placing first and holding the title of League Champion with fellow teammate Aron Leon.

“Leagues were pretty cool. I think it was the best year that we’ve had” said Saito. He also loved meeting new teammates.

“League was definitely a highlight,” said Disan Tenorio, who placed second at Leagues.

The team went to Colorado Springs this past weekend for Regionals, with Saito taking second place and moving on to state. The competition should watch out!
