The FBLA team places well at their state competition

Last week our FBLA teams traveled to their state competition to compete against other schools in an attempt to make it to nationals which will be held in Orlando, Florida this Summer.

The finalists from the state competition

We had several people place in their event at the competition and first-year competitors Annie Fox, Kooper Griggs, and Jillian Simmonds all placed third which qualified them for the national competition. There were also several people who placed in the top ten in their event.

Sophomore Kooper Griggs placed third in the Intro to Event Planning event during their first year on the team. The event entailed answering a prompt based on rubric criterion about their idea of an event. This was presented before several judges and then scored.

Griggs started out the year without any specific goals in this activity, but once she realized how fun it was, she strived to achieve big at competitions.

“ It’s a lot of fun seeing all the dynamics of the group and driving around with everybody, going to events,” said Griggs.

Jillian Simmonds also placed third in her event of Intro to Business Procedures. She has completed her first year on the team and qualified for nationals this Summer. Her event involved several tests about business procedures which were scored based on a rubric from the judges.

Simmonds’ goal was to make it as far as she could in the competitions this year.

Tatum Pratt, a Junior in her second year on the team, did not place for nationals, but her performance at the state competition resulted in an internship opportunity for her.

Pratt’s event was in social media strategies. This year at state she received a prompt to create a social media platform to help animals at local shelters get adopted.

“I am a very large animal advocate, so I just wanted to help dogs and animals get adopted.”

She calls herself a very competitive person and loves the atmosphere FBLA provides for that. Pratt pushed herself to do well at competitions so she could go to state with her friends.

The National Competition will take place in Orlando, Florida this Summer and we will have several students attending. Be sure to wish them luck before they go!
