Last week FBLA, the Future Business Leaders of America went to the Colorado State Leadership Conference to compete in many different events. This took place at the Gaylord for 3 days. 19 members from LHS went to SLC and 6 people made it to finals for their events.
Ms. Pettee says how she explains the competition to new members, “you just have to be there, it’s hard to explain.” Everyone who competes is always nervous, yet excited to see if they made it to finals. It is exciting for Pettee to pass the great news of winnings along.
Sophomores Jonas Fontaine, Ryan Newton and Tyler West were all finalists for the Intro to Social Media Strategies competition.
Sophomore Benjamin Domer placed fourth in Banking and Financial Systems.
Seniors Davin Vanoni and Luca Rodriguez placed second in the Hospitality and Event Management competition, Rodriguez was very excited about this win.
“Me and my partner, Davin Vanoni, we did hospitality and event management, and we got second place. So, very proud of that,” said Rodriguez.
When asked about the event as a whole he said, “It was workshops and different people had different events and everybody competed. We had a lot of people go to finals and win and qualify for nationals.”
Not only did all the members of FBLA practice their events and skills, but there was many opportunities for team bonding.
“It was nice because we did a lot of, like, group bonding and we like kind of learned to work as a team, as like a chapter and also like as like smaller groups. It was also cool to see students from other schools that we knew and see how other students interpreted the same things that we did,” said Rodriguez.
Josephine Storfa and Cora Boyd placed first in Intro to Event Planning. When asked for their favorite parts of the competition they responded similarly.
“It was really fun and it was a really fun way to get to like learn and practice professional and business skills. It was also like super cool because there were so many people. They’re from so many different schools. So it’s like cool to see like, so many people,” said Boyd.
“Getting to spend time with friends and getting to go to all the workshops and getting to really just, like, explore and learn new professional and business skills as well, just like personal life skills. I also really like action just like competing in our event. ’cause it’s just, like, such a different experience from anything I do in my everyday life,” said Storfa.
Whether you went to FBLA or not, this competition was an incredible experience for all. Not only did people get to meet and learn about other students of Colorado, but they also got to master an event.
If you aren’t in FBLA you should definitely check it out, they have a lot of fun!
