A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a story told again and again. This fall, LHS is performing the iconic Shakespearean play. In a mix of modern and traditional elements, the play was beyond fun and exciting.

The story follows a set of lovers, Hermia and Lysander, played by senior Victoria Chang-Nunley and senior Gavin Reidy, as they try to run away to get married. Hermia is being forced by her father, Egeus, played by senior Kieran Kelly-Marx, to marry Demetrius, played by sophomore Levi Bechtold. The young couple runs away, but are followed by Helena, played by senior Kaylie Droy, who hopes to gain the attention of Demetrius for herself.
At the same time, Lord Oberon of the fairies, played by freshman Jackson Blocker, is in a tiff with the Queen Titania of the Fairies, played by senior Griet Hazen. Oberon and his partner in mischief, Puck, played by sophomore Liam Clune, decide to make Titania fall in love with some kind of monster. This decision sets into motion a chaotic but funny series of events, where the humans fight over love, and the fairy queen falls for donkey-man.
Every aspect of the play was awestriking, from the set to the costumes to the actors themselves. The set of the play was incredibly detailed and brought the audience into the Shakespearean world.

All characters, no matter the size of the role, were dressed in intricate and specific costumes. The humans wore bright outfits that still matched the time period while the fairies looked straight out of a fable.
The lead actresses were highly dedicated to their roles. Every time the girls came onto the stage the audience couldn’t help but laugh at their drastic and fun movements. The lead male actors were distinct in their ways of acting and playing their characters. When it came time for the confusion to start, the male actors were emotional and brought an extra level to the story. Nick Bottom, played by senior Emmett Moxon, was animated and filled the stage with his presence in every scene he was in.

Each part of the play was completed by LHS students, every bit of the preparation and the play itself. It’s truly a feat for LHS students, one that the whole school can be proud of.
The play will be on October 9th at 6:30 pm, October 10th at 6:30 pm, October 11th at 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Tickets cost $7 for students and $10 for general admission. Tickets can be bought online or at the door. Make sure to go and support the LHS student’s hard work!
