Spooky Styles: what students are dressing up as for Halloween

Also written by Ava Barbour

The time has come for the spooky costumes in store this Halloween season. But what are people wearing?

The first trick-or-treater interviewed was 8th grader Piper Duvall, or should I say The Cat in the Hat. Duvall and her friends are going as childhood book characters together, which is a very iconic choice. With some of her other friends being characters like If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, Winnie the Pooh, and Paddington Bear, these figures are all very special to children all over the world.

More iconic costumes are in the making with sophomores Julie Krueger and Toby Long going as Coraline and Wybie. Both Krueger and Long plan to make their outfits by hand.

“It’s more than likely going to be a closet costume, so using clothes I have with some duct tape,” Long states, while Krueger leans more toward using second-hand items.

“I’m thrifting most of it,” Krueger says, “I want to make her star sweater with a thrifted sweater and a felt tip marker I already have.”

One costume that may be a bit controversial is freshman Rylan Marony’s Labubu costume. Marony loves Labubus, even though many people think that they are creepy and weird. He chose this costume because they are funny looking, and will be a fun choice to dress up as. Marony is going as the classic Grey Labubu, and, sadly, he is a lone monster, as none of his friends are being Labubus with him. This Labubu doesn’t have a desired candy for the holiday, but he does wish to go to the house in his neighborhood that hands out soda.

Overall, there are many different and fun costumes for students this fall. There is really a costume for everybody, so be creative and try new things! The costumes change every year, and it’s very fun to see what each year brings.
