On October 24th, Rock Canyon High School hosted the annual Treble Festival, a day filled with music, collaboration, and community. Choirs from different schools came together to celebrate their shared love of singing.
Originally, the LHS Treble Choir Syrens had planned to perform the same set of songs from their fall concert. However, as one student explained, they weren’t going to be able to perform since about half of the choir is involved in the LHS Marching Band, and that was the same day as the State Quarterfinals. Despite the scheduling conflict, the choir didn’t let that stop them. They continued rehearsing songs that would be sung collaboratively with the other attending choirs, demonstrating their commitment and teamwork. “When we had time, we would practice the songs in our vocal sections,” said senior Katie Hildebrand, the president of Syrens.
Together, all of the choirs performed “Songbird”, “Be Like the Bird”, and “Glorious Life”. Each piece carried its own beauty, but one song stood out in particular. Hildebrand’s favorite of the three was “Be Like the Bird”, because it had a nice echo effect with their voices, and the meaning of the song was so beautiful. The song tells the story of a woman building her confidence, pushing through life’s struggles, and finding peace and lightness in her own life.
For many participants, the Treble Festival was more than just a performance opportunity; it was a cherished experience. “I have always loved going to this festival, and if I had the opportunity next year, I definitely would go again, but sadly, I cannot since I will be graduating,” Hildebrand mentioned.
Among the many memorable moments, one stood out most: the unity of all the choirs performing together. The concert was meaningful for everyone involved. “Our choir was brought together through spending the day together as friends, our shared desire to perform, and of course, through our music.” says Hildebrand.
