Lion Follies Talent Show and Mr. Lion’s Pageant bring forth many talents

The time came again for the annual Lion’s Follies Talent Show and the new Mr. Lion’s Pageant. The event occurred last Thursday and was very entertaining. There were many acts and performances, perfectly showcasing the amazing talents of the school. Here are some of the amazing acts.

Chang-Nunley singing “Glitter and Be Gay” from Candide

There were many soloist singing performances, including Maggie Lentsch’s performance of Fairytale by Alexander Ryback. Lentsch’s performance was outstanding with the crowd’s energy to the singing itself, being on point and clear enough to tell the story in the song. Another show stopping performance was from Brooklyn Arizary singing “Save Me” by Jelly Roll. It was a very emotional song, and Arizary embraced it so much throughout the performance. The passion in the performance was so strong that it could be seen even from the audience. Victoria Chang-Nunley also sang “Glitter and Be Gay” from Candide. Her acting perfectly coincided with the outstanding singing, making it a beautiful rendition of the piece.

Grace Widegreen presented her talent in the form of piano. Widegreen played the song “The Meadow” from Twilight: New Moon. The music felt magical like it came right out of the film. The other pianist was Merjen Melyayev who performed “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance. Melyayev’s song was amazing to listen to and appreciate the technique used in the song.

Sophomore Student Council Skit

All of the students know that freshmen have never won the spirit stick at the pep rally, however, the freshmen student council called out this occurrence and tried to pump up the freshmen during their skit. They joked at school spirit and tried to get the other freshmen pumped up for the pep rally the following Friday. The sophomore skit was a game of Among Us where the “crewmates” had to complete certain tasks and the “imposter” had to try and stop them. Some of the tasks included stacking cups, placing a clothespin on each player, and even collecting various items from audience members. As the skit concluded, the crewmates won after correctly guessing the imposter. The junior student council did their skit last. For theirs, the juniors chose to make a parody of Say Yes to the Dress but for prom. There was a group of people shopping for dresses before finding the perfect one for the event.

Kruger on his pogo stick

Some other notable acts included Reagan O’Connor and Anika Srinivasan performing crazy yoga positions together, Lukas Kruger bouncing around on his pogo stick, and even a lightsaber battle between Sam Cron and Ryan Andersen. Kieran Kelly-Marx performed solo improv where a new prompt for him to try was picked every 30 seconds. Some of his most notable ones included a beekeeper with a bee in his suit, a man that woke up as a bug, and even a ghost hosting Ted Talk. The counseling office staff did their own glowstick dance, dancing to various pop songs in the dark with glowsticks covering their attire.

Emmett Moxon crowned as Mr. Lion

The other side of the event was the Mr. Lion’s pageant, which provided three contestants, Peter Ridgley, Gavin Reidy, and Emmett Moxon with the chance to automatically be in the running for prom king. Performances were sprinkled throughout the performance of the pageant contestants. Each contestant needed to do a lip sync, runway look, and question and answer section. In the end, Mr. Lion was crowned by the audience’s choice, and Emmett Moxon won.

Overall, the event was a great expression of the amazing talents of all LHS students. From singing to acting, everyone who stepped foot on the stage showed great talent in their performances.
