School spirit goes through the roof at LHS vs Englewood football game

Last night, September 16, 2021, our LHS Varsity football team played against the Englewood Pirates at the Englewood High School Stadium. An outstanding effort was shown by all of the players throughout the game and it was an exciting game for the large Littleton crowd.

Littleton Scores a Touchdown

It was evident from the beginning that this game was going to be a close one. At halftime, LHS was leading by one point, the score being 8-7. Tensions were high and the crowd was on the edge of their seat, waiting to see what happened next. In the 4th quarter, #33, running back Brycen Mhlanga took off down the field on a 60-yard run and was just an inch away from a touchdown!

Our defense was on point with outstanding tackles throughout the game. Ethan Bird, a key defender in last night’s game, talks about his experience.

“It was a close game, we fought the entire time. We just had a couple of mental mistakes and we have a lot to improve on going into homecoming,” Bird said.

Bird also touched on what it’s like to play football for LHS.

“The culture is really good, it wasn’t great in past years, but with the new coaching staff, the culture flipped upside down,”

The football team wasn’t the only one who came to the game to show out. The LHS crowd was offering an amount of support usually only seen at home games. Even principal Cathy Benton showed up to the game and encouraged the crowd to support our lions.

A regular LHS football supporter Jayla Sheffield talks about her support for the team.

“My favorite part of the game was when we were in the crowd and everyone got really excited and started cheering…the games and the crowd are always fun, so it’s a fun time,” said Sheffield.

The number of people in the Littleton fan section matched the number of people in the Englewood fan section, a real accomplishment for an away game.

The game went downhill in the last 10 minutes. Englewood scored a touchdown, making the score 19-14 with them in the lead. Littleton fought hard to turn the game back around, but the final score stayed 19-14, a loss for the lions. However, our pride was not quelled. The team stayed positive and quarterback Timmy Higgins shouted words of encouragement to his teammates. Regardless of this loss, the football team played amazingly and we lions couldn’t be more proud.
